On my third day in India, my driver, Sameer, invited me to his house and his sisters made dinner for me. It was such a heartwarming experience! They only had one chair, which they insisted I sit in, even though it grew to be a bit awkward with them all standing above me and asking me questions. His younger sisters (Tabu and Shaina) were so sweet, and even though their English wasn't completely fluent, they were so sweet. Tabu kept pointing at me and saying "Nice - very nice!"
A bunch of their friends came over and stood around staring at me. Sameer explained that they were excited to see a European woman.
"But you know that I'm not European, right? I'm from California."
"Doesn't matter. Everyone white is European."
All in all, a great cultural experience that you wouldn't find in a guide book.
