Kandy, Sri Lanka
The title of this post is a brilliant pun...because Kandy has one of the famous "temples of the tooth." Get it? You can tell me how brilliant I am later. Anyway, my friends and I visited the temple, and since they're beautiful and bronzed and European, and I am scruffy and have been traveling through Asia for a while, I got waved in for free while they got charged full admission. I was quite pleased with this, even though I should have been offended, since I had taken a proper shower that morning. And my hotel was swankier than theirs! Oh, well.
That same afternoon, I went to visit the Royal Palace Park. On my way there, I saw the most pious looking monkey in all existence. Seriously, scroll down. She/he looks like a virgin model getting prepared for a Renaissance sculptor. Pained, holy, full of purpose.
While I was walking through the park (which was almost entirely vacant and SO lovely), a huge black snake went writhing across the path. I ran after it, trying to get a photo, but alas, I was too late. Later I wondered if it was a good idea to go chasing after wildlife.
