Hampi is famous for its stone chariot, which sits in a temple just outside the main part of town. To get there, you have to walk across an abysmally hot stretch of boulders, but fortunately, the heat almost guarantees that you'll have the place to yourself.
I visited the chariots with a British friend (Paul!), and having him along was great, because I hadn't done very much research on the temples. He explained most of the history to me, which made it a lot more enjoyable. Paul was lovely and patient, and didn't mind repeating things when I zoned out or didn't pay close enough attention. I spent most of the afternoon trying to convince him to get a cat (single man living in Berlin), but he was polite enough to listen to my rationalizations.
Heat does strange things to me.
